Introduction Ferrate (sodium, potassium) is a hexavalent iron salt, with strong oxidation, soluble in water can release a large number of atomic oxygen, which is very effective in killing bacteria and viruses in water. More importantly, it does not produce any harmful substances in the entire process of disinfection and purification of water. Ferrate is recognized by scientists as a green disinfectant.

Mechanism of Action The iron in potassium ferrate is +6 valent iron, different from the general iron ion +2 or +3 valence state, in the whole pH range has a strong oxidation activity, oxidation potential up to 2.20V, much higher than potassium permanganate and potassium dichromate, can directly oxidize ammonia to nitrate, oxidize hydrogen sulfide for sulfate, oxidize organic matter for carbon dioxide and water, both deodorizing and detoxifying. Because Fe (VI) in high-speed iron is not directly converted into Fe3+ when decomposed in water, but has undergone the evolution of the intermediate form of different charged ions from hexavalent to trivalent, during the transformation process, positive valence hydrolysates will be produced, and these products have a large network structure, compressing and electrically neutralizing the colloidal impurity diffusion layer in water, thus showing a unique flocculation effect.

Potassium ferrate can release oxygen after entering water, so potassium ferrate has a strong oxygen release capacity, which can supplement the shortage of dissolved oxygen in the water body.
As a good water-soluble fungicide, potassium ferrate can destroy some substances (such as enzymes) in the cell wall, cell membrane and cell structure of microorganisms through strong oxidation, inhibit the synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids, hinder the growth and reproduction of microorganisms, and play the role of killing algae and bactericides.
Application Field As a new non-nitrogen highly efficient disinfectant for drinking water treatment, it can quickly kill bacteria and viruses in water; Remove some organic pollutants and heavy metal ions in the water, decolorize and deodorize, condense circulating water to control the formation of biological slime scale, and treat the wastewater containing phenol and cadmium cyanide plating.
